Disneyland Just Raised Prices Again Ahead Of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Opening

Disney just sneakily started 2019 with a pretty substantial price hike. Walt Disney World and Disneyland already raised prices not too long ago, but this new update appears to only be for Disneyland Resort in California -- for now -- and not the Florida park.

Of course, these new prices directly precede the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, the highly anticipated new land coming first to Disneyland this summer, then to Walt Disney World in the fall.

WDW News Today broke down the new Disneyland Resort price changes, which are now in effect.

Disney posted increases in single and multi-day tickets, plus annual passes. The Disney Premier Passport jumped from $1,579 to $1,949 -- if you add tax, that puts it over $2,000. As WDW noted, that's a new high for Disney ticket pricing.

In terms of daily passes, here's a breakdown of some of the changes:

1 Day - Value -- now $104, was previously $971 Day -- Regular -- now $129, was $1171 Day with Park Hopper - Value -- now $154, was $1471 Day -- Peak -- now $149, was $135

In terms of annual passes, here's a breakdown:

Select pass -- now $399, was $369Deluxe -- now $799, was $729Signature -- now $1149, was $999Signature Plus -- now $1399, was $1149Premiere -- now $1949, was $1579

Some of those price jumps are pretty serious. The MaxPass addition has also gone up from $10 a day to $15 a day. General parking has gone from $20 to $25, and preferred parking is now $40, up from $35.

There's no word on Disney World, but it's unlikely those prices will go down. It's never fun to see prices go up, but what are you gonna do -- NOT check out the new Star Wars land? That's certainly an option, although it's a frustrating and disappointing one for fans who keep getting priced out of the fun. Not only will the new land have Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, it's even going to have animatronic shopkeepers you can haggle with. Here's everything we know so far about the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge lands coming to both coastal parks this year.

It just means we all have to save our pennies a bit more. And maybe for a bit longer. It should be worth it. And yet... I'm not going to get too salty, but Disney is already set to take a lot of our money at the box office in 2019. Almost every major movie of the year -- and there are many -- already gives $$$ to Disney. You can't get blood from a stone, guys.

That Time Will Smith Turned Down The Matrix

Hollywood is full of the one that got away stories. Actors turn down roles that end up being massive hits. At the time, the decision clearly seemed right, but in retrospect actors frequently realize theyve made a mistake. Will Smith has now come clean about how he had the opportunity to take the lead role of Neo in The Matrix, but obviously, that didnt happen. Although, Smith says the decision really did make sense at the time, as the initial pitch of the Wachowskis was sort of bonkers. According to Smith

After we made Men in Black, the Wachowskis, they came in, and they had only done one movie, I think it was called Bound, and they made a pitch for The Matrix. As it turns out, they're geniuses, but there's a fine line in a pitch meeting between a genius and what I experienced in the meeting. This is the actual pitch that they made for The Matrix. 'Dude, we're thinking like, imagine you're in a fight, then you jump, imagine if you could stop jumping in the middle of the jump.'

The pitch, according to Smith on his YouTubechannel, focused on the bullet time effects the pair were planning, and the way Smith portrays the directors presentation, it sounds like it came across as less than entirely thought through. It seems that Smith figured that this wasn't something he wanted to get involved in. If this is true then the Wachowskis didnt make their best case. While the effects were cool and also ground breaking, they're not the reason to make a movie.

Of course, since Will Smith didnt make The Matrix that meant he was free to make Wild Wild West. Smith admits he is not proud of this decision.

While Will Smith clearly has some regrets about turning down The Matrix, he also admits that it was probably the best decision for everybody. Smith thinks the version of The Matrix we got was perfect, and if he had said yes, getting Will Smith as Neo wouldnt have been the only major change we would have seen. Smith goes on...

Whether or not Will Smith would have ruined The Matrix is a question well never have answer to. It certainly would have been a different movie. Though Kilmer and Smith acre great actors in their own right so maybe it still would have become the franchise we know today. Instead, Neo became one of Keanu Reeves most iconic characters and its difficult to envision the film with anybody else in that role.

Still, if Will Smith starring in The Matrix had saved the world from Wild Wild West, maybe it all would have been worth it.





If these script changes don't end up taking too much extra time, The Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez has heard that filming is set to begin on November 4 in London. So The Batman is still gearing up to finally begin principal photography, the question now is whether it will be unfold pre or post-Christmas 2019.
