What The Heck Is Going On With This Sebastian Stan Avengers Interview?
The cast of Avengers: Infinity War is starting to do press. Which is great, and frequently interesting. Because from what we can tell, no journalists have been able to see the movie. And the cast really can't reveal anything. So when they give slivers of hints of information, we try our best to process. Like, when Anthony Mackie suggests that Falcon will survive! Or when Sebastian Stan, in this unexpected interview, reveals that he has shot a scene with a character who has yet to make her appearance in the MCU, and isn't in Infinity War (that we know of). Stan says:
There was one scene we had where everybody was there. I mean, I can't really talk about that scene, but... I knew it took them three months in planning this scene to have everyone there. And you look throughout and you just saw, you know, everyone from Samuel L. Jackson to Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer. I mean, everybody was there. I kind of just stood in the corner and looked because I wanted to see how everyone would interact. It's surreal.
Wait... what? Sebastian Stan was sitting down with Letitia Wright and explaining to The Independent the filming of what sounds like a massive scene in Avengers: Infinity War that includes everyone. And in naming who he shared the scene with, he name drops Michelle Pfeiffer, who plays original Wasp Janet Van Dyne. Only, Pfeiffer hasn't appeared on screen in the MCU yet. That won't happen until Peyton Reed's sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp, due in theaters in July.
So, what happened here? We know that Joe and Anthony Russo filmed large parts of Avengers: Infinity War and the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4 at the same time. So it's POSSIBLE that Sebastian Stan is thinking about a scene that was filmed and is being held for Avengers 4. But if that's the case, it's weird to be talking about it now.
At the same time, when we visited the set of Avengers: Infinity War, the Russos did tell us that they'd have a scene that rivaled the airport battle in Captain America: Civil War, stating:
Joe Russo: We have an equivalent that's like, you know, if you had a comic book, and you open it up to your double panel, and then you fold it out. And then you folded it out again and again.Anthony Russo: And you have another comic book laid out next to it.Joe Russo: So we have the equivalent of that in this movie.
They were talking about Avengers: Infinity War. So yeah, with a little more than a week to go before this movie drops, there are still plenty of surprises that Marvel Studios has hidden up its collective sleeve. And I'm starting to believe that Infinity War is actually going to be bigger and ore epic than we had imagined. As if that's even possible at this point.
